10 Stadiums Hosting The 2022 European Championships

We look at the 10 venues that will host matches in the 2022 European Championships.

With half a million tickets sold to fans from 99 different countries around the world, the demand to watch the women’s game continues to rise.

Fans from across the globe will be traveling to the UK to be part of the historic tournament, which is set to break attendance records for a women’s European Championship.

In this article, we look at the 10 venues that will host matches throughout the month of July, up until the final on Sunday 31st.

Ten stadiums. Nine cities.

Kicking off at a sold-out Old Trafford, England will host Austria in front of over 74,000 fans in the opening fixture of the 2022 European Championships.

The remaining 23 group matches will take place across nine different stadiums in England. In the knockout rounds, Brighton’s AMEX Stadium, the New York Stadium in Rotherham, Leigh Sports Village, and Brentford’s Community Stadium will all host quarter-finals.

Semi-finals will be played at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane and Stadium MK in Milton Keynes, with the final taking place at the home stadium for the England national football team, Wembley.

With an expected capacity crowd, the final is set to break the record for the highest attendance in any European Championship game in history, in either a men’s or women’s format.

The home of English football also hosted the 2022 FA Women’s Cup which took place earlier in the year.

Attendances of professional women’s matches are higher than at any time in history.

Following last season’s record-breaking attendances in the Women’s Champions League when Barcelona twice set the record with home matches against Real Madrid (91,553) and Wolfsburg (91,648), the women’s game continues to grow, gaining popularity and viewership around the world.

U.K. University Alumni In Women’s FA Cup Final

Three U.K. university alumni to play in the 2022 Women’s FA Cup Final at Wembley this weekend.

Chelsea and Manchester City go head-to-head at Wembley Stadium in this year’s Women’s FA Cup Final.

On Sunday the 15th of May, Cup holders Chelsea return to the national stadium known as the ‘Home of Football’, in one of the showpiece matches on the U.K.’s domestic football calendar.

With the squads having been announced for both sides, we look at the U.K. university alumni who will be featuring in the 51st edition of this famous trophy.

Sophie Ingle

Cardiff Metropolitan University

Sophie studied at Cardiff Met University for four years, helping her side to two BUCS Championships during her time at the club.

After graduating with a degree in Sports Development and Coaching, Sophie has gone on to earn over 100 International caps for Wales and recently played a major part in Chelsea’s successful 2020/21 campaign, winning both the WSL and the League Cup.

Laura Coombs

University of Hertfordshire

Laura played college soccer at the University of Hertfordshire, where she graduated with a degree in HR and Business.

Having previously played for Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea, Laura will be looking to win her second FA Cup as a Manchester City player after lifting the trophy in 2019-20.

Erin Cuthbert

University of West Scotland

Chelsea FC Women’s player Erin studied at the University of the West of Scotland before becoming a professional football player.

The former UWS business student is a five-time winner of the Women’s Super League and will be looking to secure her third FA Cup winners medal on Sunday.

New International Women’s Football Tournament Hosted in England Starts Today!

Four of the world’s top 10 women’s soccer teams will meet in the inaugural Arnold Clark Cup tournament, hosted in England!

The highly-anticipated Arnold Clark Cup kicks off later today, with hosts England, Canada, Spain and Germany ready to take part in the round-robin tournament.

The brand new international soccer tournament will serve as the perfect warm-up event for Euro 2022, which will also take place in England this summer. Each team will be playing a round-robin match at three different English football stadiums; the Riverside Stadium in Middlesbrough, Carrow Road in Norwich, and the Molineux Stadium in Wolverhampton.

The opening game will be played today between with Germany taking on Spain. England will begin their tournament later today as they take on the reigning Olympic champions, Canada, at the Riverside Stadium.
